The American tennis legends, Venus and Serena Williams have already delighted fans with their life story, which was perfectly depicted in the movie ‘King Richard’. Now, the Williams sisters have once again joined hands with the American actor and producer, Will Smith, for another sports film. Venus and Serena Williams take up new roles for another movie with Will Smith

The American tennis legends will serve as the executive producers for the upcoming sports documentary that has been titled “COPA 71”. Will Smith’s production studio, Westbrook, has already started the work on the feature film with both Venus and Serena as part of the crew.

The 1971 historic soccer tournament that happened in Mexico, saw many teams from around the globe taking part in it. Over 100,000 spectators witnessed the 1971 women’s World Cup. However, the tournament was written out of history until now. The event became a talking point as it was the last women’s World Cup held by the Federation of Independent European Female Football. After a period of 20 years, the soccer association, FIFA, took over and revamped its own tournament.

In the process, FIFA along with other domestic soccer authorities dismissed that sporting event, according to an exclusive report by Variety. Consequently, only a few fans know about the iconic women’s soccer World Cup.

Speaking about the same, Serena said that it is an honor to be a part of the production crew as they will bring to light the magical story that was written out of the sport’s history. She also said, ‘Copa 71’ will tell the story of one of the most inspirational and iconic moments in the history of women’s soccer.

Venus also opened up about the upcoming soccer film that will ensure those women have their voices heard. The 7-time singles Grand Slam champion said that she was quite surprised to know that this incredible story was erased from the sporting community’s memory. Venus, who is already teamed up with the American actor for the ‘King Richard’ movie, is excited to work together again. Together, they aim to empower female athletes and showcase their achievements through their documentary.
