In the Two Percent Podcast, Ep.07, Simone Charley shared how she felt during the call with Williams. She admits to feeling a mix of panic and excitement. She shared, “I was panicking on the inside, but on the outside, I was like, ‘oh hi.” The call took place during the NWSL championship game, where Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, was in attendance with his daughter, Olympia. Charley revealed that Ohanian is heavily involved in their organization, attending most of their games.
During the FaceTime call, Williams and Charley discussed her journey as a soccer player, and Williams shared her admiration for the sport. The soccer player further added, “..so I think just like her being able to not just put tennis but like female athletes on the map… Her legacy um has just been like inspiring me to just be the best. I can be because she is like doing everything like she’s iconic.”
