‘Its So Comforting to Have That Level of Understanding in a Partner’- Sloane Stephens Has Nothing but Love for American Soccer Star Jozy Altidore

Being involved in a relationship in which all parties have to travel for work can make things very difficult. Add children to that equation, and the trickiness increases tenfold. The American tennis player Sloane Stephens has found herself in such a spot. The 2017 US Open champion recently opened up about her marriage and gave some insights as to how the two manage their professional and personal time.

Sloane Stephens on managing time between tennis and family

The American tennis star married Jozy Altidore in 2022. Altidore is a soccer player who plays as a striker for the New England Revolution in Major League Soccer. In a recent interview with Black Enterprise, Stephens explained how she and her husband manage their personal time.

As per Stephens, the couple maintain their schedules and have a prompt response to priorities to their teams. This helps them focus on family time and be present in the situation. “We are very disciplined with our schedules and expressing our priorities to our teams so that when it is family time, we are all in and fully present.”

She further added that since Altidore is a professional athlete, there is an unsaid understanding between the two. They know what the other needs and having that level of understanding is of great comfort.

She said, “Because Jozy is also a professional athlete, there is so much implied understanding about what is required for each of us to do to be and feel our best”. Stephens further added, “It is so comforting to have that level of understanding in a partner.”

Stephens believes in vulnerability 

In addition to talking about the required discipline, Stephens also highlights one key element in her marriage. She elaborated that they have several distractions in their lives and they can easily be swept up in many directions. Therefore, it is absolute that the two have to be vulnerable with each other and discuss their end goals.
