Love can be a tough road to navigate when two professionals are committed to their sport. Sadly, Tomas Machac and Katerina Siniakova were no exception to this. The power couple who made waves after making their romance public in 2020 parted ways shortly before the Paris Olympics. However, the duo’s personal life hasn’t taken a toll on their careers and their duty to serve their nation, the Czech Republic. And they made good on that responsibility!
To much surprise, Siniakova and Machac have joined forces for the doubles event at the Games. Despite suffering a major setback in their personal lives, the duo has bonded professionally in hopes of clinching a gold medal. They squared off with German talents Alexander Zverev and Laura Siegemund in the quadrennial event’s opener on Monday, July 29.
The contest saw the triumph of the Czech power duo. They thwarted Zverev and Siegemund’s challenge in straight sets, sending the event’s top seeds packing. Following their victory, the duo was witnessed joyously celebrating the occasion by hugging each other on-court. This, in turn, showcased how the former couple eased into finding comfort in each other’s arms despite going through a breakup some time back. In a recent video posted on X, Siniakova can be seen with an ear-to-ear smile as she hugs Machac after their victory.

The 28-year-old WTA star was last witnessed in action at the Prague Open before commencing her Olympic campaign. During the event, the Czech revealed she had parted ways with the former World No. 33 without disclosing the reason behind their decision, leaving the tennis world in speculating.
Tomas Machac and Katerina Siniakova dated for three years before calling it quits
The Czech pair stumbled upon love in 2020 and after taking the tennis by storm with their adorable romance, their relationship went sour after dating for three years. However, rumors about their split were already spiraling in the tennis community. Later, to address those claims, Siniakova confirmed the news at the Prague Open. She notably highlighted that this setback will not affect their Olympic performance, “Yes, it’s true, but this is my private matter. Of course, we will play, we are professionals.”

While Machac is a singles player, his former partner is privy to laudable skill in doubles. Siniakova has been ranked as high as World No. 1 and currently holds the second spot in doubles ranking. Naturally, this prompted the 23-year-old to look up to her in hopes of polishing his doubles skills. He once said: “She’s a great player, especially in doubles, I think the results can speak about itself, so I don’t know she’s breaking the records every week in double. So, I for sure I got some advice but uh let’s say I won the tournament and for her, it’s no issue for me, let’s say so yeah. She helps me a lot.”
Machac is currently scheduled to lock horns with German talent Alexander Zverev in the men’s singles event of the Games. Meanwhile, Siniakova’s singles campaign was concluded in the event’s opener, suffering a straight-set loss to Team France’s Clara Burel.
