Coco Gauff is the star of the Paris Olympics. This 20-year-old is wreaking havoc in singles and doubles with her partner Jessica Pegula. As Gauff’s performance has shown a promising future, Serena Williams’ former coach believes the competitive spirit comes from home. Speaking about Gauff’s younger brother Cameron, Rick Macci decodes how the Gauff siblings have athleticism running in their blood in an exclusive with EssentiallySports.
Gauff defeated Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle in the second round 6-1, 6-1 yesterday. She is now prepping to play against Croatian Donna Vekic today. While her performance has caught much spotlight making her one of the rising tennis stars in the USA, Serena Williams’ former coach Rick Macci had a different opinion. Although he complimented Gauff’s performance and her role as the Team USA’s flag bearer in the opening ceremony, Gauff’s younger brother, Cameron, seemed more talented.
In an exclusive with EssentiallySports, Macci said, “I have never seen an athlete like Cameron Gauff. I love Coco. Her little brother is in our Academy. He’s ten years old, he is the number one high school quarterback in the United States of America for football. You think Coco is a great athlete, I’ve never seen since I’ve been doing this my whole career and an athlete like Cameron Gauff, her little brother, I mean he’s going to be amazing in whatever sport and he’s pretty damn good tennis player. He is an unreal athlete but Coco is the real deal, she is an Olympic spitter with a racquet in her hand.” Macci’s statement shows his confidence about Gauff’s 11-year-old brother and his skills as an athlete.
