Did the Olympics Village fail our athletes? Share your thoughts on the emotional toll it took.

The Olympic Games are an experience of a lifetime for any athlete. Representing the country on the biggest sports platform is a proud moment in anyone’s life. However, against the usual trend, Coco Gauff’s teammates are having a horrendous experience at the ongoing Paris Olympic Games. The United States women’s tennis contingent boasts of some renowned names like Danielle Collins and Emma Navarro, apart from Gauff. After a poor experience at the Games’ village, Gauff’s team members moved to a nearby hotel.

They fled the Olympic Village as overcrowding and congested bathrooms gave them a nightmarish experience. Recalling the ordeal, billionaire Emma Navarro, during an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, revealed, “Yeah, I stayed in there for three nights I think, but I didn’t sleep basically at all. I slept cumulatively six hours, so I had to move out and go to the hotel. I cried a little in the lobby the day I moved out, I think just from lack of sleep.”

Navarro is the billionaire heiress and daughter of billionaire businessman Ben Navarro. With a net worth of around $3 Billion and being one of the richest players in the world, one can see why Navarro might be uncomfortable with such poor conditions as the Paris Olympics village. Thus she, along with four other team members decided to move to a hotel.

Subsequently, Gauff shared glimpses of the overcrowding situation on her social media handles. Sharing a video of the poor conditions, the American sensation said, “10 girls, two bathrooms. #olympicvillage.” Speaking on this situation, Gauff mentioned later, “All the tennis girls moved to a hotel except me. So now just five girls, two bathrooms.”

Not only are the Olympic stars facing problems with the arrangements made for the Paris Olympic Games but also the tourists visiting the city. One of the fans revealed that she was regretting her decision to attend the Games as she felt like a ‘rat in the cage’ with massive barricades and roads blocked. Nonetheless, Gauff has opted to stay in the village, with her sole focus going on winning an Olympic gold medal.

Coco Gauff is determined as ever to succeed in Paris

While the poor conditions of the Olympic Village have affected Gauff’s teammates, the American sensation wants to stay there and focus on the task at hand, i.e. winning a gold medal for her country. After a heartbreaking withdrawal at the Tokyo Olympics due to a positive Covid-19 test, Gauff is looking to make it count on her Olympics debut.

Have an interesting take?

Revealing her ambitions for the Paris Olympic Games, Gauff revealed, “Tennis and trophies mean a lot to me, but the impact that you leave on people means more. I just want to know that I left my print on this world in some way, shape or form, outside of just the things that I do on the tennis court… So I think if I can affect the world in some type of way… hopefully I try to do it in a positive way. It would mean a lot more.”

Coco Gaff is in contention in both singles as well as doubles. She is into the pre-quarterfinals of both events and has a realistic chance of striking two gold medals. Can Gauff find success in Paris? Let us know your views in the comments below.
