Can you imagine your own coach turning against you because of your on-court behavior? Danielle Collins’ Olympic journey was cut short by injury. However, even after almost ten days since that match, the tennis world hasn’t forgotten what they witnessed between Collins and Iga Swiatek in the ‘City of Love’. Days after the controversial match, Collins’ former coach has weighed in on her behavior.

Stakes were high and so were the intensities in that QF clash. It all got started when the match was well-poised with each player taking one set each. During the decider, Collins hit a fiery backhander that struck Swiatek on the ribs and she fell down on the ground. Although she got up on her feet a few moments later, Collins then withdrew from the match while she was trailing at 1-6,6-2,1-4. Things didn’t end there as both players even got engaged in a lengthy conversation during the handshakes.

Both Collins and Swiatek gave their own version of thoughts on that conversation. After hearing all these, Jared Jacobs, American’s ex coach, felt Collins perhaps unnecessarily took it a step further. Per Sport.pl, the 50-year-old stated, “From what I know of Danielle, I know that sometimes she can be bothered by completely harmless things, and then she doesn’t think about anything else.”

Whereas Jacobs thinks Swiatek is perhaps not the most sociable person on the women’s tour and according to him, she is someone who “struggles with her own fears.” Perhaps this is why he feels, “Danielle could interpret that as rude or insincere behavior. Nevertheless, Iga has always been a nice person. She certainly didn’t say anything to Danielle that should have bothered her,” concluded Jared.

Shortly after the match,  Collins revealed that Swiatek was being a bit insincere about her injury. According to her, there are a lot of people who come out with a lot of charisma on the cameras but are instead much different when they are in the locker rooms. Collins added, “I just haven’t had the best experience, and I don’t really feel like anybody needs to be insincere. They can be the way that they are. I can accept that, and I don’t need that fakeness.

Swiatek was a bit surprised with the reaction from the American tennis star. She said her sole intention was to congratulate Collins on her incredible career since she has already announced that this is going to be her last season. While clarifying her thoughts on the whole incident, Swiatek said, “Well, I won’t argue about it, because I’ve never done anything nasty to her.

She felt she didn’t have any interactions as such with Collins that could’ve pushed the American to say those things to her. What are your thoughts on this whole incident? Do you think Collins really got it wrong?
