Did Coco Gauff choke under pressure, or is she just getting started on her path to greatness?

Coco Gauff hit the ground running in her Olympic singles debut, breezing through her match with ease. However, the aspirations of American fans were heavy on the 20-year-old tennis player’s matches, causing a mixture of fear and excitement. But as the young talent teeters on the brink of throwing away a fantastic chance to earn an Olympic medal, the tide is turning against her.

Despite the slight disruption caused by the rain to the schedule, Gauff’s third-round match has preserved her hopes of winning three medals. There is a tangible sense of excitement as the match progresses, but American supporters are starting to turn against Gauff because they believe she could be close to missing a fantastic chance to win an Olympic medal.

Gauff’s Olympic career took a depressing turn when she lost a pivotal game, giving up the Croatian opponent’s serve in the second set, leaving everyone shock. This loss might severely hurt her prospects of taking home the gold at her first Olympics, even though the match has a long way to go.

On the other hand, her long-awaited Olympic debut was marred by her withdrawal from the Tokyo Games a few days before the competition because of a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. Even though, now in the third round, with her supporters’ love and great expectations going into the event, the rising American star is suddenly facing an uphill battle, receiving a different reaction.

Fans of Gauff have gone to social media to vent their annoyance and disappointment as tensions during the game are rising. One fan expressed his strong desire to stop watching the Olympic games if Coco Gauff fails, writing, “If Coco Gauff loses this match, then I’m done watching these Olympic games,” indicating that he had great expectations for the American.

Another fan, highlighting the young athlete’s age and focus on tennis, called on her to pick up her game, adding, “I’m gonna need Coco Gauff to get serious right now.” Not only that, it also emphasized on how she needs to get things on track rather than carrying the idea of just doing well on the court.

A fan called attention to two of her key errors, saying, “Coco Gauff just gave away that game with those double faults. Woof,” indicating the careless mistakes that cost her the match. When considering the past as well, tennis fans have been frustrated by the 20-year-old’s numerous errors in major or WTA 1000 events, making her fall back.
