Serena Williams is slowly and steadily making her way back to the sport spotlight. Per reports from a week ago, Serena Williams, a 12-time ESPY winner, will host the prestigious awards ceremony on July 11th, following the premiere of her eight-part ESPN+ documentary “In the Arena: Serena Williams,” which chronicles her illustrious career. The documentary is interestingly connected to Tom Brady, which gives Williams’ varied career yet another fascinating dimension.

Serena Williams’ upcoming documentary series is a collaboration between ESPN, Religion of Sports (co-founded by Gotham Chopra, Michael Strahan, and Tom Brady), Brady’s 199 Productions, and Williams’ own Nine Two Six Productions (co-founded with Caroline Currier). Emmy-winning director Gotham Chopra will helm the series. The announcement came during Disney’s upfront presentation last year.

The series builds upon the success of Tom Brady‘s “Man in the Arena” franchise, with co-production by Brady’s 199 Productions, Religion of Sports, and Williams’ own Nine Two Six Productions. Emmy-winning sports documentarian Gotham Chopra directs the series.

ESPN said the multipart Williams series “provides the most complete, intimate, and compelling account of her legendary career, featuring firsthand perspective from Serena and key figures throughout her life.” It also “juxtaposes Serena’s spectacular on-court achievements and cultural impact with dramatic personal challenges.”

Williams announced the news of her upcoming documentary, “In the Arena: Serena Williams,” on her official Instagram account. In the video she shared, viewers saw her with a racquet in a stadium full of applauding spectators, dressed in a molten gold one-shoulder dress, seemingly ready to serve. Blue Nike sneakers were used with the outfit to highlight Williams’ exceptional sense of style and her ability to pull off any look.

In that video, Williams, telling the story of her journey and spirit, said, “I didn’t need to blend in. I needed to be different because I was different. I was something that no one has ever seen before ever.” The tennis legend wrote, “I can’t wait for you to see what I have been working on!” with the video. Not only that, she also dropped another bombshell while teasing her return to the tennis courts after two years of retirement.

After her sports documentary debut, will Serena Williams make a tennis comeback?

Just a day ago, the 42-year-old American tennis legend took to her Twitter handle and shocked the entire tennis fandom with her random message. “I’m ready to hit some balls again,” Serena wrote. While the idea is still a spectacle, she might have hinted at her possible comeback to tennis.

But in 2022 during the US Open, the American announced her retirement from tennis arena play, capping a 27-year athletic career. She intended to grow her family after getting over the emotions of retirement, which she accomplished when she gave birth to her second daughter. However, she also desired to concentrate on her venture company, which is thriving on its own.
