Tennis is a sport that demands full dedication, and its schedule eats up the entire year. Professionals only have a few weeks’ breaks dispersed throughout the year. Therefore, building new relations becomes a far-fetched dream, as even giving time to close one is nearly impossible. As Chris Evert once confessed, the greater the player becomes, the farther he/she gets from such things.

Evert the 18 times Grand Slam champion detailed the loneliness the sport brings to a player and the drift it creates. She, taking her broken marriage into context, addressed how on-court achievements don’t fulfill the emotional need. Also, she revealed how harshly the world starts treating an athlete post a divorce.
Evert about how the hectic schedule of tennis ruined her personal life
Evert in a 1997 interview, at first spoke about how she felt after her 1976 Wimbledon Championship victory. She said, “I had just won the biggest tournament in the world and I went back to an empty hotel room and thought, “Is this all there is?”
“I sort of made up my mind then that I was going to work on my relationships more: friendships, everything. I was just so isolated back then. You really do pay a price for fame,” the former World no.1 added.
Thereafter, she explained how fame acts against one by opening up about how the post-divorce confrontation with the media felt like. “Sometimes, when you go through a divorce and you’re in the public eye, you feel like you’re being raped by the media and people think the money is supposed to cushion that. But it really doesn’t.”
Evert in the year 1987, tied the knot with fellow tennis player, John Lloyd, and walked out of the union in year 1987. Thereafter, she got hitched to the alpine ski racer, Andy Mill, and in 2006 parted ways with him to be with Greg Norman.
