Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert started their careers around the same time and became bitter rivals as they always competed for ranks and grand slams. However, one thing that made them friends like never before was battling cancer at the same time and of a similar kind. Having to fight cancer was one of the toughest phases of their life.

And since they had each other’s friendship supporting them, it made them a lot closer than they were before. Just recently it was Martina Navratilova’s birthday and Chris Evert shared a heartfelt message for her on her official social media channel. Not only that, but Navratilova responded back with the same intensity of emotions to her dear friend.

On multiple occasions, both tennis legends have mentioned how having someone to share their pain and experience with while going through cancer helped them and made them better. If they did not have each other, they would not have been able to come out of cancer so easily.

To celebrate their bond and Navratilova’s birthday, Evert posted on her Twitter account, “Happy birthday to my great friend @Martina who continues to inspire me with her strength, resilience, and principles… You’ve got a huge heart, Martina, so appreciative of our friendship.”

Along with this post, she also posted a photo of herself with Martina where they are pointing their fingers towards each other and smiling widely.
