The American tennis champion Serena Williams enjoyed a fruitful partnership with her former coach Patrick Mouratoglou. Together, they were successful, with Serena winning 10 Grand Slam titles during his tenure. However, he is now working full time with Simona Halep and has been crucial to the Romanian’s recovery from a rambling injury. Recently, Halep made a fantastic showing at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. She made it to the semis but lost to Elena Rybakina, the eventual winner.

However, ITIA banned Simona Halep yesterday after she tested positive for a banned substance. The former Romanian national team doctor is now criticizing Serena Williams’ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, for doping.

The former world no.1 Simona Halep was temporarily suspended for doping yesterday by the International Tennis Integrity Agency. She tested positive for an illegal drug,?roxadustat,?two weeks ago, and the news finally got out yesterday.

However, former Romanian national team doctor Pompiliu Popescu believes that coaches should also be blamed for such incidents. Popescu believes no doctor would recommend such a substance since it puts both the athlete and the doctor at risk.

Serena Williams joined hands with Patrick Mouratoglou just after her first-ever opening-round loss at the French Open in 2012. The duo went on to become a formidable unit as a coach and player until early 2022.
