It has been a few years since Alexis Ohanian revolutionized NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League). Back then, he teamed up with fellow women soccer enthusiasts and became the leading investor of Angel City FC after signing a deal of a whopping $100 million. However, it failed to receive love from people. Now, the situation is gradually changing.

The NWSL has seen an influx of funds and it has also seen an increase in popularity. This was something that Ohanian’s haters could never imagine becoming a reality. Thus, back in the day, they criticized him harshly for having his head in the clouds. Consequently, he went on a quest to prove them wrong, and it seems like he has managed to shut the naysayers up once and for all!

The Reddit co-founder has proved that he is both a man of words and actions. It was in 2019 that he vouched for the growth of women’s soccer. However, he received backlash for hoping for something that was perceived to be impossible by the masses. Recently, Ohanian got back at his haters with some stats and solid proof of his success. With the increasing value of TV rights and the influx of funds, NWSL has come a long way from what it was back in 2019.

Ohanian shared the old tweets that had criticized him. One tweet stated, “No one cares about women sports. That’s true”. Another tweet questioned NWSL’s talent. Ohanian remembered it all and got back at the haters. He stated, “Y’all started tearing me down back in 2019 when I started telling y’all women’s sports was undervalued.”

Getting real about how their hate motivated him, he added, “I kept all your tweets. Not done yet. Thank you for the motivation.” However, it was not only this hate but also his love for his daughter Olympia and wife Serena Williams that allowed him to revolutionize women’s soccer.

How did Serena Williams and Olympia play a role in Ohanian’s NWSL dream?

It was only during the 2019 World Cup that Ohanian changed the face of NWSL. After the US won the World Cup, he marveled at the thought of Olympia playing soccer. However, Serena Williams gave him a reality check and called out the pay gap in soccer. That is when Ohanian decided to invest in the NWSL.
