Named King Richard, the film delved into the struggles of the Williams family as Venus and Serena strived for greatness. The film received massive applause from the masses for its stellar cast performance and amassed $40 Million worldwide. Additionally, critics were also high in praise for King Richard.

Two years after its release, the Williams sisters have another exciting project coming up. While Serena announced the news of her pregnancy, Venus returned to the tennis court. Despite being at different points in their life, the two have partnered yet again as Serena shared a glimpse of the news.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion took to Instagram to reveal to her fans about Copa 71, a documentary based on the soccer revolution. Serena and Venus are the executive producers of this movie, which is set to be released in September.

Serena shared a glimpse of the documentary via a post on her official Instagram handle. Additionally, she mentioned, “Meet football’s unsung heroes. Witnessed by record crowds but written out of sports history, uncover the extraordinary true life story of #Copa71.”

Copa 71, based on the 1971 Women’s Soccer World Cup, marked a historic occasion for female sportspersons. More than 100,000 fans gathered in Mexico’s Azteca Stadium to witness the sporting spectacle. Six teams, England, Mexico, Argentina, Denmark, Italy, and France participated in the tournament lasting for 21 days.

Who won the 1971 Women’s Soccer World Cup?

Despite just 6 teams participating, a record turnout made the tournament historic for women athletes. The tournament was won by Denmark, who defeated hosts Mexico comfortably 3-0. Meanwhile, Italy finished as the second runners-up, defeating Argentina for the 3rd position.
