Serena's historic feat despite illness—Does this make her the GOAT of women's tennis?

Is there anything impossible to achieve in this world? Well, not for Serena Williams. While the American legend is one of the most decorated athletes in the sporting world, she has also garnered some sensational wins. Among those was the 2015 French Open victory, which she pulled from the jaws of defeat and after suffering from illness. Years after that historic win, Williams’ ex-coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, got candid on the American legend pulling off that victory.

Williams made it to the summit clash of the 2015 French Open and was due to face Lucie Safarova in the final. However, prior to the final, she was suffering from flu and had a severe body ache. The former World Number 1 even considered pulling out of the final but eventually decided to give it her all in the summit clash. Not only did she contest but also pulled off a stunning win, which was reminisced by her ex-coach, Mouratoglou.

Terming her win as the most impressive moment in sporting history, the legendary French coach said, “When you see what she what she’s capable of during that tournament, she makes things impossible become possible. That’s why she is who she is.”

I thought, ‘If I’m going to lose, I’m going to go for winners.'”

With the match going into the third set, Williams was drained out after the second-set tiebreaker and even contemplated pulling out midway. But she had enough grit and determination to fight on the court and lift the title in Paris.
