There is some really great and fascinating news for tennis fans. The 2021 tennis season has begun and the WTA has decided to host a tournament once again in Hamberg, Germany. This is quite exciting as the WTA tour will be returning back to Hamberg after quite a long time.

Sandra and Peter-Michael Reichel recently took over the tournament license of a WTA tournament that used to take place in Jurmala, Latvia (Baltic Open) earlier. The event will now be a part of the WTA 250 series and will instead take place in Hamberg, Germany on the clay courts. Although the dates of the tennis event have not come up yet, it’ll certainly take place before the French Open 2021.

It will be the fifth WTA tournament that will be taking place in Germany. The WTA already has tournaments in Stuttgart, Berlin, Bad Homburg, and Cologne on its schedule this year.

The last edition of the WTA Hamburg took place way back in 2002. Kim Clijsters won that tournament by defeating Venus Williams in the finals.

Former World No.1 Kim Clijsters also seemed quite excited about the upcoming tennis tournament. She congratulated the WTA for the same and said that it was some great news.

“Congratulations! Great news,” tweeted a cheerful Clijsters.

She couldn’t just control herself after the news and even asked for the dates of the tournament. Even though she didn’t get a response, fans believe that the WTA will soon release the dates of the tennis tournament.

“When will it be held?” asked Clijsters in the comment’s section.

It is definitely some great news for not just German fans but for the fans throughout the world. They will surely get to witness some more electrifying tennis in the 2021 season and will certainly want the tournament to take place as soon as possible.
