The French Open has finally reached its latter stages of the tournament and only the last few best players of the event now remain. One among them will be Coco Gauff who is one of the clear favorites in the event. However, one of the biggest surprises came in the form of Aryna Sabalenka, who suffered an unfortunate defeat in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Having made consecutive finals at the Madrid Open and the Barcelona Open, she was expected to go further in the event and make yet another mark.
However, her Russian opponent Mirra Andreeva proved to be a solid force and defeated her in a three-set thriller in the Roland Garros. While Aryna Sabalenka bowed out of the event, she had to suffer with yet another major blow. Currently ranked 2nd in the world rankings, she had to compromise with her place as well. Coco Gauff not only made her way into the semi-finals but also jumped one place to secure the second spot in the live WTA rankings.
Coco Gauff, who won her match now has 7988 points to her name while Aryna Sabalenka, who lost her QF encounter will have 7788 points to her name. While the rankings will be updated on Monday, Gauff will now be standing in the second spot, a personal best for her. That being said, she will now be targeting Iga Swiatek who is comfortably sitting at the top spot of the WTA rankings.

While this is a personal best milestone for her, she would now be looking to take over the top spot in the rankings. The French Open this year has been a wonderful event for the young American star. While she made her way into the semi-finals of the tournament, she created multiple records to her name. She joined the likes of Maria Sharapova as she became the youngest player to reach the semi-finals of three consecutive grand slams. She did the same in the US Open last year then the Australian Open this year and now the French Open.
Apart from this, she also became the third American superstar to reach multiple French Open semi-finals before the age of 21. Only Chris Evert and Andrea Jaeger have done it before. Thus, Coco Gauff has been doing wonders this year at the French Open. While her journey is far from over, she would now be looking to lay her hands on her second career grand slam and establish her supremacy on the Parisian clay. Do you think she will be able to do it?
