Can Caroline Dolehide's aggressive play overpower Martina Trevisan's consistency in Guadalajara?

The tennis season never seems to be off the gas, does it? After a thrilling yet hectic two weeks at the US Open in New York, the action quickly shifts to Mexico where the players are vouching for the WTA 500 Guadalajara title. Although some big stars are missing from the tournament, there is an exciting bunch of talent who are eager to impress at the tournament. Among them is Caroline Dolehide, aiming for her first title this year.

Dolehide will be up against Martina Trevisan from Italy. Although the American star will be the favorite going into the match, Trevisan has enough experience and one can only rule her out at their own peril.

Given her massive potential, Caroline Dolehide hasn’t had the best season by her standards. She is yet to win a title this year, although she clinched a title in doubles earlier this season. However, she has had some interesting results of late. At the recently concluded US Open, she knocked out Danielle Collins in the first round, who was playing in her final Grand Slam tournament.

However, Caroline Dolehide succumbed to defeat against Errani in the second round. In the last five matches, the American star has won just 1 match and is looking to regroup ahead of her opener in Mexico.

Additionally, she is well-acclimatized going into the tournament in Guadalajara as she played in the Abierto Zapopan tournament last week. Thus, it promises to be a thrilling encounter and fans can expect some fireworks today.

While Dolehide is ranked 44th on the WTA Tour, Trevisan lies just inside the top 100 at the penultimate position. However, both the players have lost more matches this year than winning. Caroline Dolehide has managed to succeed in 14 of the 36 matches that she played in 2024. On the other hand, Trevisan has 18 wins and 25 losses this year, although most of her wins have come in the lower-rung tournaments.

Given their massive difference in rankings and Dolehide’s better head-to-head record against Trevisan, she is expected to win the match in straight sets and enter the second round.
