Finally, D-Day is here! There is palpable excitement in the air as the climax of WTA Finals is just hours away. And just in the nick of time, the American sensation, Coco Gauff, has regained her form, as she defeated the Australia and US Open champion, Aryna Sabalenka, to make her way to the finals for the first time. However, it won’t be an easy task for her, as the Olympic champion, Qinwen Zheng, awaits her like a dragon. Who would win? That’s the question to be answered by the players’ game on court, but how much cash incentives would they claim after the win? That is clear, in front of everyone!
Both Coco Gauff and Qinwen Zheng have won two matches each during the round-robin stage. While Gauff got the better of Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula, Zheng ousted Jasmine Paolini and Elena Rybakina to reach the semifinals. And it wasn’t an easy matchup. Zheng defeated the Wimbledon Championships winner, Barbora Krejčíková. And Gauff turned the tables around in her favor against the World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, who dominated the tournament from the start, by winning 2 of her matches in the round-robin stage. These wins not only came with the opportunity to move forward in the tournament but also with a massive paycheck.
By making the final after going 2-1 in round-robin play, the two players pocketed $2,305,000 each. However, more is to come for the winner. The winner of the tournament would add another massive check to their winnings, amounting to $2.5M. Thus taking the total winnings of the WTA Finals title holder to, $4,805,000, almost around ~$5Mn. It is the largest prize money check in the history of women’s professional tennis. Riyadh certainly knows how to motivate the players to do their best. This was visible during the exhibition match popularly known as the Six Kings Slam.
