For the first time, the WTA Finals is being held in Cancun, and the fans are agog about it. The outdoor hard court event, which was founded in 1972, features the top eight ranked players on the women’s circuit. Given the roster of elite participants, the season-ending championship has always produced some highly competitive matches. Even this 52nd edition of the prestigious event is poised to uphold its exceptional standards with the likes of Coco Gauff and Iga Świątek.

Both the young tennis sensations are already off to a great start in the WTA Finals in Cancun. And now the tennis community can’t keep quiet as the two reigning Grand Slam champions will now play each other to move closer to the next stages of the tournament. How will prevail?

The Polish tennis star has now attained the moniker of the ‘Queen of the Clay’ after her third triumph at the French Open. With five titles this season, including her recent success at the China Open, Iga Świątek has entered the WTA Finals as the second-seed player. Now, given her comfortable first group stage match win against Markéta Vondroušová, the 22-year-old looks all geared to add another title to her bag.

Coco Gauff, on the other hand, has now also become a leading figure on the women’s tour owing to her US Open crown. With three titles this season, including her maiden Grand Slam glory, the American tennis prodigy entered the WTA Finals as the third seed. While being one of the favorites to win the championship, Gauff has already outshined the sixth seed, Ons Jabeur, in her first match.

Iga Świątek vs. Coco Gauff: Head-to-Head Record

In the group stage of the WTA finals, the young tennis sensations will now square off against each other for the fifth time this season and the tenth time overall on the tour. During this season, Świątek and Gauff first met at the Dubai Duty Free Championships, where the former won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.

Even in their Grand Slam encounter at the French Open, Świątek clinched a comfortable win against her American colleague. However, in their next meeting, it was Gauff who emerged victorious on her soil, as she went on to win the Cincinnati Masters title. Apart from this, Świątek and Gauff also confronted each other at the China Open, where the former won and extended her massive lead in their H2H record, 8-1.

Given their past encounters on the court, the Pole is likely to get the victory against her fierce American opponent at the WTA Finals. But Coco Gauff, who has been in incredible form throughout the hard court season, will make it a tough contest for the 4-time singles Grand Slam champion.
