The WTA 1000 event in Doha is a highly attractive tournament for all players on tour. A deep run in the tournament would set each player up for good form in 2024. The world number 1 Iga Swiatek has reached the semifinal of the tournament and will play against Karolina Pliskova. A win will grant the two to have a shot at the title, which will be their first in 2024.
The winner of their clash will either face Elena Rybakina or Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the final. For Swiatek, it is a chance to defend the title, and for Plíšková, a win will mean a chance to win the title for a second time.

Swiatek has had a great run in the last few years and has been persistent at the top of the table. In 2023, she started the year with an average run in the Australian Open. She would follow it up with two Masters finals and a semifinal. However, she managed to show the world why she is the WTA number 1 after defending her French Open title.
Exiting the quarterfinal of Wimbledon, she fell into a minor slump and lost rank 1 to Aryna Sabalenka. However, she managed to return to rank 1 after winning the China Open and the WTA Finals. In 2024, she couldn’t continue playing past round three and will now contest in the Qatar Open.

Plíšková has not had a similar season to Swiatek. Although she used to be at the top of the table, Plíšková has not been able to contest with the big stars since 2021. Her best run in the slams was in the quarterfinal of the Australian Open. She also couldn’t manage a better result than a quarterfinal in Master tournaments.
Coming to 2024, Plíšková managed to show good improvement in her game. In the Brisbane International, she exited in the second round, with a first-round exit awaiting her in the Adelaide International and Australian Open. Her fate would change as she won the Winners Open before the tournament. Now, she will face Swiatek in the semifinal of the Doha Masters.
Swiatek vs Plíšková: Head-to-Head
Swiatek and Plíšková have battled each other thrice on the court. They first met in the final of the Italian Open in 2021. Swiatek achieved a resounding victory over the Czechia player as she double bageled her to win the Italian Open for the first time in her career. Their second meeting would be in 2023 in Dubai, but Swiatek would receive a walkover.

The 2023 Stuttgart Open would be their third match, and Plíšková would be more of a challenge this time. She won the first set, but the Polish player would shut her down quickly to make the score 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. They would meet again soon in the Canadian Open in the same year. Once again, Swiatek would prove to be the dominating force after winning the clash 7-6, 6-2.
Prediction: Swiatek to win against Plíšková for the fourth time

The Polish player has a much better grip on her game in certain tournaments. Although she exited early in the Australian Open, she has a much higher chance of beating Plíšková to enter the final and have a chance at winning the title in 2022. The Czechia player has been performing well, but the end of her stint is close at hand.
