All eyes are on Aryna Sabalenka this season. Having earned the Australian Open tournament title twice, she has ignited hopes within the fraternity for a historic third victory. While her followers dream of her achieving the hat trick and visualize her alongside Swiss legend Martina Hingis, Sabalenka remains unshaken by the hype. Although grateful for the support, the Belarusian player remains focused on her game, showcasing her intense dedication to the sport she loves most.
Sabalenka’s achievement in the Australian Open tournaments not only shows her expertise on the tournament’s grass soil but also reveals her potential to reach a milestone that was last achieved by a WTA legend 26 years ago. Yes, we are talking about Swiss legend Martina Hingis’ Australian Open record where she bagged the tournament’s trophy thrice back-to-back in 1997, 2998, and 1999. After Hingis, Serena William tried to achieve this but she could only win the title in 2009 and 2010. Williams withdrew from the tournament in 2011 stating her need for rehabilitation due to her foot injury. She confirmed her hematoma and pulmonary embolism disease that forced her to stay off the court till the clay season. Therefore, the Olympic gold-medalist WTA star simply lost the chance to join n Hingis on this special milestone. After that, Aryna Sabalenka is the one to show her potential bout this milestone 14 years after Williams.
In a press conference for the 2025 Brisbane International tournament, the Belarusian player was asked about her excitement and preparation in her attempt to reach the milestone. With her response, Sabalenka delighted the fraternity revealing her dedicated self. “Honestly, I didn’t know about that till probably few days ago when I saw, I don’t know how we say, Twitter tweet. Someone post, whatever, saying that it’s been a while since someone won three Australian Opens in the row. I mean, it’s little bit cool to achieve such an incredible goal, dream of so many young players. But once again, I think I better focus on myself. If I’ll be able to bring my best tennis, I know that I’m able to do that. But yeah, I prefer to stay focused on myself,” she said. Despite a thrill in the back of her mind, this WTA number one player chose to focus on her spirit and determination to play her best tennis this season.

I know I am capable of many things, that I am capable of holding that beautiful trophy. It’s good to know, but there is still a long way to go. Many things need to be done. I prefer to focus step by step. It’s good to know that you have the ability to win the Australian Open, but it’s better to focus on yourself, on improving each day, on doing your best and expecting the best. That is my mindset for the Australian Open,” she said. Despite all, Sabalenka remained determined to focus on her skills and form more than prioritizing any record.
