From being the person who idolized Venus and Serena Williams to now being admired by young girls, Coco Gauff has come a long way. And now, in addition to improving herself, the 19-year-old sensation is attempting to pave the way for young tennis players who are preparing to enter the sport. The seventh-ranked women’s tennis player in the world has recently undertaken a tremendous responsibility to give back to the city that helped her reach where she is today.
Gauff is an Atlanta native who has spent the majority of her life there and considers it her home while having a close affinity with the city and its people. Following a recent exhibition match in Atlanta that she participated in, the 19-year-old has moved forward to assist the neighborhood with its tennis facilities.
Coco Gauff is bringing a tennis change to Atlanta?

The 2022 French Open finalist recently played an exhibition match in the city where she grew up and spent a lot of time since her early childhood. After the Sunday exhibition match against Leylah Fernandez, she has been spending a little more time with her family and friends in Atlanta. Despite few tour events in Atlanta, the American tennis sensation loves to return to the city to cherish her community. This time, when the 19-year-old returned to her childhood home, she took the generous initiative to improve the tennis facilities in the city.
For Gauff, investing in revamping and bolstering Atlanta’s public tennis courts is her way of giving back. The American tennis sensation is partnering with the Art in the Paint organization to renovate four public courts in Brownwood Park.

During her visit to Atlanta, she also shared a crucial reason that motivated her philanthropic actions. About the people that constitute her support system there, she said, “They?ve made me the person I am 100%. Moving from Atlanta to South Florida was a big change, but I love the culture. Being a black woman in tennis & having the support from all the people in Atlanta means a lot to me.” Not only that, after winning the exhibition match, the World No. 7 in an interview with 11 Alive News detailed her special connection with the city.

Gauff’s unconditional love for Atlanta?
After losing in the first round of Wimbledon this year, the American tennis player found the best way to bounce back by playing an exhibition match in the city where she was born. After her effortless victory, she talked about how the city feels like home.

Last year too, Coco Gauff had played a similar exhibition match against fellow American Taylor Townsend at the Atlanta Open. Even then, she had recounted her life in Atlanta. Her strong ties to the city hark back to the years between two years of age and the third grade. Reflecting on how she was ready to give back, she had made a huge statement that she was ready to change the world with her racket. A year on, she has done exactly that.
