‘World Doesn’t Revolve Around Americans’- Vocal Coco Gauff Issues Grounded Opinion on Hectic Tennis Travel

Coco Gauff has recently come up with a befitting reply to the opinion that American players would find it easier to manage the WTA’s new scheduling. Her explanation shows that she is not only excited about the match, but also very much looking forward to “have the most fun on tour.” 

Given the Qatar Open being scheduled soon after the Abu Dhabi tournament ends, Daria Kasatkina recently publicly criticized the WTA for its scheduling choices. And now Gauff’s take has added fuel to the burning fire.

“I have no problem following the tour” – Coco Gauff is ready to deal with the “long flights”

The way the Qatar Open is scheduled, after the tournament in Doha, there will be Indian Wells and other tournaments in America, creating a lot of competition from here and there. Recently, the US Open champion opened up in a press conference about how even Americans face the same scheduling problems, but at the same time, as she is young, she can navigate through it quite calmly.

She said, “Yeah, it’s weird, but also, at the same time, the tour doesn’t revolve around Americans, so I can’t complain about the long flights. It definitely doesn’t revolve around us.” Along with that, she also highlighted how it’s cool to have a lot of tournaments in the US, but at the same time, traveling for 8 hours on flights is not that bad for her.

Not only that, she also stated the fact that she is quite young, and her tournament in Europe also feels the same as the tournament in the US. Further, she highlighted, “The world doesn’t revolve around Americans. I have no problem following the tour. Yeah, I am really excited for the U.S. swing, though. I think that is where I have the most fun on tour.”

She was quite open about her stand as an American tennis player, and at the same time, she appreciated the American tennis swing. However, this all started when the 26-year-old Russian tennis player criticized the WTA scheduling and revealed her struggle from the Abu Dhabi Open’s final to the Qatar Open’s first round.

When Daria Kasatkina raised questions at the WTA 

After reaching the Abu Dhabi Open’s finals, the Russian tennis player shared her disappointment with how, just after the next day, she had to be in Doha for another tournament. While she rapidly asked how it was not easy for any player to snap fingers and move from one place to another, she had her own set of questions. She said, “I have a question, I don’t know to who, to WTA or the tournaments, like, are you guys trying to make players die, or to get injured often?”

At the same time, she vented out her frustration and highlighted how finishing one tournament a day and going for another one the next day is not an easy task. She stated, “I might have to fly Monday and step on the court the same day, after playing five matches here at the highest level.”

Further, she also apologized for talking about taking things into consideration that might create problems for not only her but for other tennis players too.
