Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian not only preaches about his love of sports, but he practices. And aims to instill the same in his daughter as well. So, Serena Williams‘ husband has embraced one more role: teaching his daughter Olympia the game of kings. As they delve into the intricacies of chess, Ohanian’s playfulness shines through, making the lessons both fun and competitive for little Olympia, as she tries to defeat her father.

Ohanian recently posted a wonderful picture of his daughter Olympia absorbed in a chess game on Instagram. The story showcases Olympia’s developing chess skills, as well as the quality time that the father and the daughter spend together learning the intricacies of the game. Sharing a lighthearted remark, Ohanian wrote, “Making sure this little American girl knows how to play (it won’t be hard to beat Papa).” 

It was storyboard chess, and the chess pieces were covered with different characters to make the game interesting for a 6-year-old. This is not the first time Papa Ohanian has shown his interest in seeing his daughter master the game. In 2021, Serena’s husband Alexis Ohanian posted a picture on social media, in which Olympia was seen playing chess. The Reddit co-founder tweeted, “Olympia Ohanian is still learning how all the pieces move, but this American Dad wants to get started early.” However, this is not the only sport we have found Olympia in.

For the forty-year-old American businessman, the ideal Sunday is more than just a day on the calendar—it’s a treasured custom he shares with his adored daughter. Ohanian recently shared a number of images from his weekend on Instagram, playing golf with his elder daughter. The Reddit co-founder constantly prioritizes time spent with his family, even though he is one of America’s most well-known businesspeople.

In his heartfelt caption, Ohanian wrote, “What a perfect Sunday. Just Golf & my Girls.” The pictures showcased their happy and treasured times spent on the golf course, with Olympia pulling a golf shot and Ohanian looking on proudly. In one image, Ohanian and his daughter could be seen hitting shots together. The family indeed had a great Sunday. But do you know that Olympia is not like some other child trying out her hands in sports? She does more than that.

Going to be 7 next month, Olympia is already the co-owner of two sports teams. In June 2023, Alexis Ohanian announced that she has become the co-owner of the Los Angeles Golf Club, alongside mother Serena, 41, and Alexis Ohanian, 40.

“Announcing my fellow co-owner of @wearelagc…@olympiaohanian!” the Reddit co-founder captioned the post. “Olympia is the youngest owner in professional sports (@weareangelcity) and is now the youngest 2-team owner in professional sports,” Ohanian had written in his Instagram post. Revealing further, he had said,  “She’ll be joined by her future sibling 🥳.” The other sport where Olympia also has a presence is soccer.

She is also has a stake in the Angel City Women’s Football Club, where Alexis Ohanian is an owner. “Right now all Olympia knows is that Angel City FC is our team, and she loves cheering for them. I think as she gets older, maybe she’ll come to see the different layers to it. Obviously, being the youngest owner of pro sports is pretty fun, but she doesn’t actually understand that she is the youngest owner in pro sports,” Ohanian had said. In an August 2022 Instagram post on her page, Olympia showed her impressive footwork while scoring a goal!

“As someone who spends hours kicking around a football with my two-year-old daughter, I want her to have a front row seat to this revolution. I’m personally investing on behalf of my family because creating more opportunities in women’s sports is important to my wife @serenawilliams and me, and we want to be a part of making a better future for our daughter @olympiaohanian,” Alexis had made his plan about sport clear. And that is not just a saying, he has also done much already to back that up.

Serena Williams’ husband has started a revolution in women’s sport

It was the year 2019. Like every other American, Ohanian was also excited about the USA lifting the women’s football World Cup. Out of that, he fantasized about daughter Olympia taking up soccer and maybe one day, she might also be one of the members of such a squad. But wife Serena was quick to pull him down to the reality.

“Serena said without missing a beat, ‘Not until they pay her what she’s worth,” Ohanian had recalled in 2022. That reminded Ohanian about the sorry state of affairs where iconic players like Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan had to file a lawsuit against US soccer for equal pay. But that did not mean Ohanian abandoned his fantasy. Rather, he took it the other way.

Ohanian, in July 2020, became a part of the ownership group, led majorly by celebrity women like Natalie Portman, Julie Uhrman, and Kara Nortman. “Women’s soccer, in particular, I believed was tremendously under-resourced, under-marketed, undervalued, underappreciated, under-supported, the list goes on. I saw it first and foremost as a tremendous business opportunity. My north star here is quite simply that this is something that was so obviously good of an investment and I feel great all this other stuff has come from it,” Ohanian had said about the move.

As Ohanian had put it across, a lot of people had predicted that he would a lot of money after his investment. However, Ohanian’s acumen did not go wrong. In July, Bob Iger and his wife, Willow Bay, agreed to become the controlling chief of the club. With their additional investment of $50 million to support the club’s growth, Angel City FC has a valuation of $250 million. This makes it the highest valuation of any women’s professional sports team. Ohanian could not hold back from taking a jab at the critics after the news became public.

“I just wonder where they are now,” Ohanian had said. “This is really just the start. I’m excited to see this continued investment and to keep building Angel City into what I know can be the biggest brand in all of women’s professional sports,” an excited Ohanian had further added. Not only soccer, Ohanian has etched his footprints in other directions of women’s sports as well.

He has a vision for the track and field as well. The sport garners a lot of attention during the Olympic games. But the same is absent beyond that. According to Ohanian, he finds the situation of track and field same as that of soccer. To overturn the picture, he has launched Athlos NYC, a women-only track and field meet, that sets its journey on September 26 in New York. The meet boasts the largest prize money ever in any track and field meet to date.

The winner will reportedly take home $60,000 out of a total prize pool of a minimum of $500,000, which is way ahead of what winners receive at the Diamond League meets. “We know that the American women in track are historically and unabashedly great. I can market greatness all day long. So why not create an event for these athletes?” the Women’s Sports Foundation 2022 Champion For Equality Award recipient had said about the move.
