After a nightmare start to 2022, Japanese player Naomi Osaka is having a great run at the Miami Masters so far. The former world No.1 reached the quarter-final of the tournament after beating Alison Riske 6-3, 6-4 yesterday in her Round-of-16 clash. Interestingly, she also reached the quarter-final of the Miami Open last year, falling to Maria Sakkari in straight sets. After her match yesterday, she was speaking at the press conference. During the press conference, one interviewer asked her about equal pay in women?s tennis, which completely surprised Osaka.

At the recent press conference at Miami Open, four-time Grand Slam champion, Naomi Osaka spoke about equal pay and raised a few valuable points. Also, she joked about not giving an answer with a PowerPoint presentation.?
?Oh, that’s a very interesting question that I didn’t think I’d get asked. I don’t want to be rude. I’m like really trying to structure this in a way that’s not like off-putting, but I think it’s like decades of hard work, you know what I mean? Like up until now, the women have been putting in the work. It’s not just like, oh, it’s come out of nowhere that you get paid the same, you know what I mean?? Osaka said when asked about equal pay for equal work.?

?So it’s like the history of the WTA has been leading them into advocating for equal pay with Billie Jean King, Venus, Serena, all that. And I also think ticket sales are important. I think the WTA has really good up-and-comers, the No. 1 player in the world, Iga is like 20, right? I don’t know. It’s who people find interesting. Coco is amazing, as well,? Osaka further said.?
Then, she jokingly said, ?So I can’t really, you know, give you a PowerPoint presentation on your question, but for me, I feel like the revenue that you generate, like ticket sales is very important, and I think the WTA is doing a really good job with that.?
Osaka faces Collins in the quarter-final
Naomi Osaka has been in top form so far at this year’s Miami Open. She is yet to drop a set in Miami this year, making a light work of her opponent, Alison Riske in her Round-of-16 clash. Now, she will face the Australian Open 2022 finalist Danielle Collins in the quarter-final.
