Wimbledon has been one of Venus Williams’ favorite hunting grounds for success throughout her career. After winning her maiden Grand Slam in the same tournament in 2000, the former World No. 1 made 23 more appearances on the grass courts, bagging a total of five titles. While she continued her prowess on the court, the person constantly pushing her forward was her ever-supportive father, Richard Williams. Even when the American tennis pro’s ranking dropped before 2007 Wimbledon, her father’s faith in her form didn’t waver!

Richard Williams’ role in shaping the famous Williams sisters’ tennis career is no secret to tennis fans. Starting from coaching them to encouraging them and cheering for them in the stands during tournaments, he has done it all. Therefore, even though Williams’ ranking dropped to 31 in 2007 as she entered Wimbledon, Richard Willams’ belief in Venus Williams’ skills didn’t change. Even before she won the tournament, her father declared that she was hitting well and had the potential to win.

Richard Williams’ prediction did come true as Venus Williams, entering the tournament as the 23rd seed, went on to defeat Marion Bartoli in straight sets. However, the journey up until then has not been entirely smooth. When Venus Williams earned two back-to-back titles at Wimbledon in 2000 and 2001, everyone witnessed her power on grass. Following her second victory at Wimbledon, she even earned the top spot in tennis in 2002. Sadly, injuries struck her in 2003. On top of that, she also lost to her sister Serena Williams in the final of Wimbledon, finishing at No. 11 for the first time in six years!

Although she earned her 2005 Wimbledon title by fighting off Lindsay Davenport, her ranking remained stagnant at No. 10. Moreover, her wrist injuries the following year hindered her from giving her best on the court, resulting in her early exit in the third round. As a result, Venus Williams once again saw a huge decline in her ranking. The American tennis pro, who once graced the World No. 1 position, was then ranked at 46! However, she did not give up, and soon the turning point came in 2007.

After battling with all her efforts, she created history by being the fourth woman to win the Wimbledon title for the fifth time in the Open era! Preceding her were the legends of the sport like Billie Jean King, Martina Navratilova, and Steffi Graf. Naturally, her reaction after achieving this incredible feat stole the hearts of all tennis fans!

Venus Williams’ priceless reaction after winning Wimbledon titles!

In 2007, Venus Williams was over the moon when she finally managed to claim her Wimbledon title once again by defeating her opponent with a score of 6-4, 6-1. After the match, she said, “This win, it’s so much different from the others because the other ones I felt like I was playing in championship form from minute one.”

Following that, there was no stopping her success at Wimbledon! The next year, she defended her title and emerged victorious. After her victory over Serena Williams, she said, “I’m definitely more in tune with my sister’s feelings because one of us has to win and one of us has to lose. You could never detract from winning a Wimbledon, so of course it doesn’t detract from that.”

As Wimbledon knocks on the door (starting July 1st), the contribution of players like Venus Williams resurfaces time and again. Although she has yet to win another title in this tournament, her incredible mark at Wimbledon is one to remember for ages!
