Could Venus Williams outshine Snoop Dogg as NBC's commentator for the 2028 LA Olympics?

Venus Williams seems to be following in the footsteps of Snoop Dogg, who was recently spotted covering the Paris Olympics for NBC. While this year’s Olympics have already concluded, there is speculation that the American tennis legend might take on a similar role at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Here’s the latest update on the matter.

The elder Williams was recently on TC for NBC/Peacock and featured in the countdown to the LA28 show. The official Instagram page of LA 2028 shared a photo of Williams and posted, “The party don’t stop. TUNE IN to the @autodesk Countdown to LA28 presented by @visitcalifornia on @nbcolympics and @peacock at 10PM ET/PT. #NextUpLA28.”

The LA28 Games will mark the third time Los Angeles has hosted the world’s biggest sporting event, with the city previously hosting the Paralympic Games in 1984 and 1932. “This is the biggest moment in LA28 history to date, as the Olympic flag passes from Paris to LA,” said the LA28 president Casey Wasserman.

To make the handover even more memorable, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre were spotted energizing the stage with their performances. During the closing ceremony, Snoop Dogg performed ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot,’ and was later joined by Dr. Dre for ‘The Next Episode.’ The dynamic performance left a lasting impression as the Olympic torch metaphorically passed from Paris to Los Angeles. This has led to speculation about whether Venus Williams is ready for her “next episode” in a new role at the 2028 Olympics.

Venus Williams lits up the stage to celebrate the success of Team USA

Team USA has won a total of 126 medals at the Paris Olympics. It includes 40 gold medals. The numbers are bigger and better than the previous two editions. Now, we all know as soon as one edition ends, athletes start preparing for the next. Are we going to see a similar or something better from the American athletes when the Games kick-start in LA (2028)? Well, that’s still a long wait to get this answer. However, every American athlete is excited about this handover from Paris to LA.

Have an interesting take?

We have seen Serena Williams carrying the Olympic Torch during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics and now Venus Williams was spotted hosting the LA28 handover. During their childhood days, both sisters used to play on the tennis courts that the LA84 Foundation helped build. So, the Olympics, Los Angeles, and the Williams sisters have a long partnership. Venus Williams has won five medals (including four golds) while her younger sister has won four Olympic gold medals in her career. What a journey it has been for both of these sisters!

After attending the closing ceremony, perhaps Venus Williams will be stepping onto the courts yet again as there is a huge possibility of her making a comeback at the US Open. With retirement knocking at the doors of the 44-year-old tennis star, fans will surely be thrilled to see her taking the footsteps of Snoop Dogg at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
