Martina Navratilova is one of the greatest players of all-time in WTA history. The Czechoslovakian and American tennis professional has been quite vocal about her thoughts on matters that interest her. Recently, the movie based upon the upbringing of the Williams sisters by their father, Richard Williams, came out. Thereafter, attracting 6 Oscar nominations . It’s an obvious fact that the event called for every tennis entity and fan’s attention. However, what happened at the event took everyone by surprise and Martina also had a few things to say.

Martina’s Thoughts on the Incident

Actor Will Smith, who portrayed Richard Williams, the coach, and father of Serena and Venus Williams, created a huge ruckus on the award night. He got furious when the host Chris Rock made a joke about his wife. Thereby, slapped the latter in anger. Every person, regardless of their presence at the event, spoke about it. Martina Navratilova also weighed in. Though her take is quite different, as she believes the incident will affect the black community in some or other and fuel up the violence against them. She twitted about the matter and wrote“Will Smith didn’t slap just Chris Rock… yup. It hurts.”

Martina Navratilova is a player that inherited a love for tennis from her grandmother. Her grandmother used to be a professional tennis player prior to world war two. Even though the situations back then were not friendly for a tennis player to emerge, she made her way. Martina started playing tennis against the wall of her house and, at the tender age of 15, won the Czechoslovakian tennis championship. Thereafter, at 16 she entered the united states lawn tennis association professional tour and turned professional after 2 years at the age of 18.

Martina has 18 Grand Slam titles, 31 titles in doubles, and 10 in mixed doubles. Adding to that, she has held the position of world no.1 for a record of 332 weeks in singles and 237 weeks in doubles. Further, she has a record of 9 victories in Wimbledon and owns some excellent records on the red clay of France as she has been to the finals of the French Open six times.
