The Miami Open did not go the way Danielle Collins imagined, but she found a new friend. What is this all about? You see, in her post-match interview after her third-round win over Rebeka Masarova on Saturday night, she revealed how she had come across an injured dog on the road two days before her tournament. “I was like, ‘We have to pull over, we have to get the dog,” Collins said. “We took him out of the street. … He’s been in the hospital now for two days.”

There, they got to know that the animal needed emergency surgery and Collins got emotional and promised to adopt him if he pulled through. After five long days, the dog recovered, and Collins was delighted to share this news with her fans. She took to Instagram to post an image with her new dog and wrote:

“Crash update: Crash is recovering and finally out of the hospital after 5 days on oxygen support. His breathing is back to normal, his wounds are healing, and he is definitely enjoying all the love he is receiving. He is curious, affectionate, and grateful for a second chance at life. It was so incredibly painful to witness a dog in so much pain after being hit by a car, and left in the middle of the road with so many people driving by his curled up body. I’m just grateful I was able to be there and get him the care he needed.

” I have officially adopted him and Quincy now has a new brother! Once he finishes recovering he will be attending school  thank you to everyone who prayed for Crash Also a massive thank you to the wonderful team of veterinarians that took care of Crash and helped him receive the best possible care!”

Interestingly, the tennis star already has four dogs (three of them are her parents’). The most famous one from the brood is perhaps her Labradoodle Quincy, nicknamed Mr. Q, who was almost always present with Collins last year and made several appearances on her Instagram profile. Collins also lovingly dubbed Mr. Q the “MVP” of her run to her first WTA 1000 crown last spring.

Then, back in 2020, she opened up about how her dog always kept her company. She stated: “He’s white and gray, a little fluff ball, and I love him to death. He’s been awesome, because tennis tournaments can be very isolating, especially on the days that don’t go your way. Quincy always has a smile on his face. He’s always got a positive attitude. He loves me unconditionally. He just offers so much support to me. I try to bring him to as many places as I can. We have so much fun together.” Now, she is thrilled for Mr. Q and the fact that he has a new brother.

According to her, pets bring much-needed comfort to her life. “Yeah, I have one dog, and my parents have three dogs. They are so fun to be around. When I travel, we have to be away from each other for so long. My dog is Quincy and is a mix,” she said in a press conference back in July 2020. Remember how she admired Quincy last season after the Miami Open triumph?

When Quincy became the ‘MVP’ for Danielle Collins

During 2024’s initial phase, Danielle Collins was performing brilliantly on the court. She won two straight WTA events in Miami and then in Charleston. And guess who was her inspiration? None other than Quincy. She made it evident after her title win in Florida and the Charleston Open. In the latter, she defeated Daria Kasatkina, 6-2, 6-1. With that, she also became the first woman to clinch back-to-back Miami and Charleston trophies since Serena Williams in 2013.

During her post-match interview, she finally got to see Quincy. “He started on his road trip last night, late in the evening, Rachel our great family friend and her husband loaded up the RV and they got Mr. Q here in time for the finals,” she revealed, as reported by Tennis Channel in April 2024. “Mr. Q was so missed this week so I can’t wait to give him a big ol’ hug!”

Not only that, she even gave him a special title while also crediting him for the Miami triumph in which she beat Elena Rybakina in the final. In an IG post, last April, she shared a video with ‘Mr.Q’ and wrote, “This year’s Miami Open MVP goes to my very handsome, very sophisticated, smart, loving, charismatic, ball of energy, my favorite son… Mister Q! Quincy, I don’t know what I would do without you. I love you sir!! 🏆⭐️✨💫”
