The renowned entrepreneur played a major role in founding the popular social media platform, Reddit. Alexis Ohanian came up with the idea of Reddit with the help of his college friends. However, he later resigned from the company in 2020.
Ohanian recently revealed that he was once involved in a conversation with his father-in-law, Richard Williams. He added that Williams told him a few stories of how Jim Crow affected a plethora of African Americans.
The Reddit co-founder took to Twitter and stated, “That’s not even all of it. I’ve heard a few of the stories not in that book directly from my father-in-law, which definitely had an impact on why I needed to resign in protest from the Reddit board in a last ditch effort to finally get those hate communities banned.”

In his autobiography, “Black and White: The Way I See It,” Richard Williams talked about how he suffered under the Jim Crow laws of racial segregation in the South. The former American coach further stated that he had to protect himself from the white community as they used to beat him up. He added that those people tried to beat him with chains, bats, and sticks. Williams revealed that his body still has marks from the harsh treatment he suffered when he was a child.
Why Ohanian stepped down from Reddit?

The popular online platform was a huge entrepreneurial success for Ohanian. However, the popular tech figure surprised everyone with his decision to step down from his role on the Reddit board. Additionally, he also urged the board to fill his position with an eligible African-American person. Ohanian went on to say that his resignation will inspire everyone who is fighting to fix the “broken nation.”
The founder of the capital venture firm, Seven Seven Six, said that he will donate his funds from his Reddit stock for the welfare of the African-American community. During his entrepreneurial journey, Ohanian has constantly worked for and voiced his opinions in support of eradicating racial hatred from the nation.
