Migration is a common phenomenon in sports, isn’t it? There are a host of players across different sports that have switched borders. Obtaining greater opportunities is one big reason that contributes to this factor. Tennis is no exception. Many players in this sport have moved away from their native country to pursue their dreams. Anisimova excelled at a very young age on the tennis tour. At just 17, she made it to the semifinals of the French Open in 2019. Let’s find out why Anisimova moved to the United States from Russia.

Amanda Anisimova and her family moved to America was due to her sister
While many will think that the family switched nationalities due to Amanda, it was in fact her elder sister who was behind this move. Anisimova’s father, Konstantin Anisimov, once said that they moved to the United States in 1998 in the hope of providing more opportunities to their older daughter Maria. She was just 10 at that time and the family wanted her to grow in her tennis journey.

The family eventually made the move to Florida. Maria went on to play tennis collegiately at Pennsylvania. However, her journey was restricted till there as she didn’t make it big in her career.
On the other hand, it was Anisimova who made the most of the opportunities and facilities available there. While she received early coaching from her parents, she soon became a tennis prodigy and began working with elite coaches.
