Understanding the fame of tennis legend mother Serena Williams can be a little problematic for 6-year-old Olympia. The 23-time grand slam champion recently said that she used her 2017 Australian Open victory to answer Olympia’s question “why are you so famous?” Remembering that time, Williams also talked about how surprised she was that nobody noticed the one weakness she experienced during the time. She will be glad no player picked up on it as it becomes a great story for her eldest daughter.

When Serena Williams won the 2017 Australian Open, fans believed that it was another routine grand slam victory for the Queen of the Court. However, it was later revealed that she was 2 months pregnant at the time of playing the slam. One of the biggest achievements of her career was when Williams used the incident to explain her fame to her daughter. “Yeah, Olympia’s now at an age where she’s like, ‘Listen, I am wondering, why are you so famous?’ She was like, ‘You’re a great tennis player.’”

She further told People, “And so I told her the other day that she actually was in my belly when I won a big tournament [the 2017 Australian Open] and she was surprised. She’s at an age now where I can kind of open up to her a little bit more.” The 6-year-old may not understand why the title accomplishment was so impressive, but the tennis world will never forget the feat.

Winning the 2017 Australian Open was “a little crazy” for Serena Williams

In March 2023, Williams gave an interview with Norah O’Donnell on CBS, where she couldn’t believe that she had won the slam. “Yeah, that was a little crazy, though. I don’t know that was; I don’t know how that happened,” Serena said. O’Donnell then asked Williams if she was aware of the pregnancy at the time. Williams stated that she was aware of the situation and then mocked her fellow players for missing her weakness.

I did, and it was crazy because I was I couldn’t play long points if you go back and look at it all my points are like five, six balls and if they were longer than that, I would lose the next point but nobody picked up on it so I was happy.
