A man who wears many hats

Alexander Gilkes discovered his passion for art at Charles Saatchi’s “Sensation” exhibition back in 1997. This became a turning point that began his journey to delve into a road of multiple professions. He later became an auctioneer for fine art under the mentorship of Simon de Pury at Philips.

In 2011, Gilkes decided to make an entry into the digital world by founding the online auction platform Paddle8. This venture not only gave birth to a blend of traditional art auctioneering and e-commerce but also tagged the 44-year-old as an entrepreneur.

With a hunger to add more and more to his bucket, Gilkes extended his boundaries into the world of education and cultural preservation. He contributed as a trustee on the board of the New York Academy of Art since 2016. Not holding long enough on a single venture, Gilkes also co-founded Squared Circles, a venture studio.

How love brought them together

Maria Sharapova and Alexander Gilkes have been inseparable since they publicly announced their relationship in 2018. According to what the couple revealed, Alexander expressed his love to Maria in December 2020, to which the tennis legend happily affirmed and proceeded with taking vows of a lifetime.

Their engagement became public with adorable pictures in an Instagram post, which Maria captioned, “I said yes from the first day we met. This was our little secret, wasn’t it.” Alexander, equally sharing the levels of excitement, also posted on Instagram, saying, “Thank you for making me a very, very happy boy.”

Was Alexander Gilkes married to someone else before Sharapova?
