The tennis world is filled with many interesting love stories. From Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa to Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur, we have seen it all. Further, British star, Jodie Burrage is also in the news over her romance with a rugby star. The 25-year-old made a solid comeback at the Australian Open, winning her first-round match against Leolia Jeanjean comfortably 6-2, 6-4. As she readies to face Coco Gauff in one of her career’s biggest matches tomorrow, let’s dig into her romantic tale.
Burrage has been in a relationship with Ben White, who is a Scottish rugby star. Burrage and White got along in 2019 after meeting on social media and live together in Richmond, South West London. A scrum-half, White has become an instrumental player for the Scottish team. Although born in England, White represents Scotland at the international level after qualifying on ancestry grounds. At club level, he represents the Rugby Club Toulonnais.

Interestingly, White is alien to tennis and doesn’t know much about the sport. His girlfriend Burrage once joked, “I’d definitely be better at rugby than Ben is at tennis!” Nonetheless, the two ensure they support each other in their careers whenever they can. White once revealed, “Jodie’s traveling for 30 weeks over the year so we don’t usually get the chance to sit down and do things like this. She trains here and I train at the club. During lockdown she had no one to hit with so we’d try to rally on this astro-court where they’d left the gate open. She’d lose her head with me so I’d end up just throwing balls out of a basket.”

Back in 2020, she even contemplated retirement after injuries prevented her from giving her best. Additionally, she missed half of the last season due to wrist and ankle issues. With Burrage being 100% fit now, Gauff is wary of her ahead of their second round encounter.

Ahead of their match, the American star revealed that Burrage has ‘nothing to lose’ and that she would play without any fear. Gauff admitted she would have to be at her best if she had to defeat Burrage. Meanwhile, Burrage got emotional ahead of her clash against Gauff, saying, “I knew the hard work that went in for the last year. All of those emotions from the last nine months I think, yeah, were bottled up in there. Last year I didn’t think I’d be playing these kinds of matches again. So I’m just going to relish the moment and see what happens.”
Gauff’s second-round clash against Burrage will be played at the Rod Laver Arena tomorrow. Will it be an easy victory for Gauff or are we in for a surprise? Let us know your views in the comments below.
