Bianca Andreescu’s current form at Roland Garros is a testament to her relentless pursuit of excellence on-court. After all, she has already surpassed two rounds in the tournament. But who is she relying on to improve her performance on-court? Well, it is none other than her own hitting partner of three years, J.T. Nishimura.
The 24-year-old WTA player has made a quick recovery from her back injury this season and has made a massive comeback after that. Fueled with motivation and utilizing her spiritual side, Andreescu now has a new mindset on-court. But along with her approach to the game, she has also brought a new figure to her team as well! J.T. Nishimura, who once excelled as an NCAA Division 1 college tennis player, is now on her side to guide her on-court.
However, the 28-year-old former player has been helping Bianca Andreescu since 2021. After practicing with her for two years, Andreescu invited him to join his team. And Nishimura obliged and took the bold decision of quitting his job at the tennis club. Instead, he found his new role in the 23-year-old player’s team. “He’s also he’s very supportive. Sometimes I feel like I get down on myself. But just looking at him, he’s always super positive and always pushes himself no matter what. And that’s, that’s an inspiration for me,” Andreescu said last year.

Fast forward to this year, now he has a greater role and a big dream to achieve along with Bianca Andreescu on-court at Roland Garros. However, his role as hitting partner in tournaments is not new. The former tennis player from California started it back when he was just a teenager. J. T. Nishimura has enjoyed an astounding collegiate tennis career so far. As a senior, he produced his best results at 11-11 in singles. Not only that, before concluding his career, he also had a 55-25 singles record.
It all started back in the fall of 2016, when he ended with a 21-9 singles record. Apart from that, he also reached a significant doubles mark with a record of 20-13. And it only became better as he proceeded to college, where he finished with a 13-6 singles record in 2017. He played various matches at his college in 2018 as well, and he finished the season with a 12-6 doubles and 5-2 singles record. Then, he started his career as a hitting partner and found his passion.

Since the start, his dream was clear. “It’s motivating to be around the highest level of tennis all the time. Everyday feels fresh for me, to go to the biggest tournaments in the world—that’s what you dream off. I feel like every day I wake up, I have to perform,” he once said. Together with Nishimura, Andreescu’s goal is also clear for this season, as she recently revealed in an interview.
Bianca Andreescu sheds light on her newfound approach to tennis
When Bianca Andreescu last played in the Canadian Open in 2023, little did she know that she would be away from tennis for the next 10 months. But after struggling with a stress fracture in her back, Andreescu embarked on her tennis journey once again this season at Roland Garros. With three titles in her name, Andreescu is currently vying for a grand slam this season in Paris. However, she is cautious in her ambitions.

“I want to win, but I can definitely say now it didn’t work so well in the past for me. “I’m a very emotional person, and I hold a lot in. I never want to be a burden to people so I try not to speak my mind as often as I know I can. So I have to learn to be more open,” the Canadian player recently revealed. She further added, “I’ve learned through everyday practice to accept what is and basically do what you can with what you have. That helps a lot.”
Now, as she moves forward on her journey in the tournament, the tennis world waits to see her revive herself on-court. But as of now, with the help of her new coach, she is looking to win her next battle against Jasmine Paolini in Paris.
