Danimal has been roaring on the courts! The American tennis star, likely in her final season, is giving it her all, leaving nothing behind. However, despite a sensational year, Danielle Collins is struggling to capture the full attention of fans who don’t yet see her as their favorite in the ongoing grass-court Grand Slam. This has sparked a lively debate within the tennis community. Why isn’t this fierce competitor getting the recognition she deserves at Wimbledon?

The latest to join the fray of people extending their support to Collins is American sports commentator, Brett Haber. On the latest episode of Tennis Channel Live Podcast, which aired on July 2, Haber questioned the absence of Collins’ name in the list of top contenders at Wimbledon. He further highlighted the masterclass of a season that the star player has witnessed and expressed his confidence in her skills.

Speaking at the podcast, the 54-year-old questioned whether people have forgotten Danielle Collins. “Where is Danimal in all these? Where is Danielle Collins? Have people forgotten what she has been doing this year? Come on!” 30-year-old Collins has had one of the sensational seasons of her career so far this year.

Danielle Collins has clinched two crucial titles this season, one at Miami and the other at Charleston, in addition to going on a 15-match win streak. She also advanced to the semi-finals of the Italian Open. Now with the American all set to play her first match in probably her last Wimbledon, Haber’s appreciation of her skills this year is a testament to the class that she has displayed.

Adding further, the American commentator expressed his excitement to watch what Collins has in store. “I can’t wait to see what she brings to the All England with this, you know, final-season mentality.” Danielle Collins announced her retirement in January and since then, she has been in an unapologetic form. Many have attributed this rage to the success that she has witnessed this season. Haber’s statements come at a time when several in the tennis community are favoring Coco Gauff and Ons Jabeur as the primary title contenders in Wimbledon.

Ons Jabueur lost two finals at the grass-court grand slam in 2022 and then again in 2023. However, her hopes are not shattered. She herself had expressed her fondness of the venue. “Wimbledon is one of those places which is my own paradise,” she had said in a recent interview. Besides, her latest performance in Berlin and Nottingham, where she advanced to the quarterfinals has added to her motivation. Similar is the scenario for Coco Gauff.

In the Tennis Channel Live podcast, former American WTA star Chanda Rubin picked Coco Gauff as her champion for the slam. “When you think about how far Gauff has come over the last 12 months she lost first round at Wimbledon last year to Sofia Kenin and look how well that has turned out for her since. So I think she’s due for something really special this year. And I’d love to see her make some noise at Wimbledon.” Meanwhile, Danielle Collins is worried about something else too.

‘Many of us have..’ This is what Danielle Collins will not miss after her retirement

As the American tennis star edges closer to her retirement, there is one thing she will not miss at all – Stalkers. I’m serious,” Collins told the Telegraph. “I don’t think it’s something that gets talked about a ton, but many of us have had security issues during our time playing on tour. I had a few different situations over the years. It’s never fun, the feeling of looking over your shoulder.”

As the ongoing tournament progresses, it will be interesting to see if the tennis star can do something really great and win her first Grand Slam in her final season.
