After attaining glory at the Australian Open, Aryba Sabalenka had to go through several ups and downs in her personal life. While she was distracted from her massive form, Coco Gauff continued to maintain consistency and was close enough to overtake her and secure the runner-up position in the WTA rankings after Iga Swiatek.

However, the Belarusian managed to turn the tables with her run for the title in Madrid and therefore secured a slot in the finals. This guaranteed her a notable hike of 500 points, which is enough to secure her position for now. With Coco Gauff hustling to regain her position, it still remains to be seen if she will be able to take the position using the upcoming events.
