Martina Navratilova has been amongst the greatest players ever to pick up a tennis racket. Over a career spanning more than 20 years, the legendary player excelled in all formats of the game, be it singles or doubles. The former World Number 1 went on to win an incredible 59 Grand Slam titles overall. While 18 of those title victories came in singles, she holds 31 women’s doubles major titles and 10 mixed doubles Grand Slam titles.

Recently, the former World Number 1 golfer, Greg Norman, has been in the news surrounding his rival golf tournament. Norman is heading a new multibillion-dollar Saudi-backed LIV series and has drawn sharp criticism from across the fraternity. Navratilova too opposed the recent developments in golf.

Martina Navratilova draws sharp criticism of Greg Norman

The iconic tennis player took to Twitter to denounce Greg’s actions. She said, “Yup… what Greg is doing is inexcusable.”

Earlier, a former friend and teammate of Greg Norman, Wayne Grady also opposed Greg’s actions. He said, “From someone who has known Greg for 50 years, Greg is only about Greg. He has been trying to take down the tour for 30 years. The admiration I had for him for what he has achieved and what he did for Australian golf is gone.”

Further, he went on to add, “For him to try and trivialize what the greats before him did to grow and create what the PGA Tour is today is an absolute disgrace. You should hang your head in shame, Shark. I went to the memorial service of Jack Newton yesterday and was surrounded by true professional golfers who believe in loyalty and history. GFY Shark.”

Navratilova on Wimbledon’s ban on Russian and Belarusian athletes

The 65-year-old also went on to criticize Wimbledon’s decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players from the tournament this year. She felt that the players were not at fault for the country’s policies and that banning players based on nationalities wasn’t correct.

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal also voiced similar opinions as Navratilova. In the wake of this ruling, the ATP is considering stripping Wimbledon of ranking points. A decision on this is expected shortly.
