Maria Sharapova is one of the most popular names in women’s tennis. The former World No. 1 has moved into entrepreneurship after retiring from tennis at the age of 32. With various investments and ventures, the Russian has become a force in the business world.

Sharapova stunned the world on her 35th birthday, announcing the pregnancy of her first child with Brit, Alexander Gilkes. With frequent updates on social media, Sharapova surely keeps her fans updated.

After the stunning announcement in April, Sharapova took to Instagram to capture another moment in this new phase. Her caption read, “What doesn’t require a waist band, gets my vote these days 🙃👀🐥”

Sharapova and Gilkes began dating in 2018, with an engagement two years later. Gilkes attended Eton College with Prince William and Prince Harry, while Sharapova spent close to 15 years on the professional women’s tennis Tour. Gilkes was earlier married to Misha Nonoo, while Sharapova was engaged to a former basketball player, Sasha Bujačić. She also was in a relationship with fellow tennis star Grigor Dimitrov, in the past.

Sharapova’s tennis legacy
The 35-year-old has won 36 WTA Titles in her glorious career. The list includes 5 Grand Slams, with a sensational win at Wimbledon in 2004, aged 17. She also rose to the top of the women’s rankings for a combined 21 weeks.

Unfortunately, she was banned in 2016, for using meldonium, an anti-ischemic drug banned by WADA. She soon made her return to action, before finally hanging up her boots after the 2020 Australian Open.

The Russian also achieved a career Grand Slam with her last victory coming in 2014 at Roland Garros. Since retirement, she has started her own signature candy line called ‘Sugarpova.’ Additionally, she has also featured on the TV Series ‘Shark Tank’ as a guest investor.
