Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian is one of the biggest advocates of paternity leaves. The 39-year-old stepped up as a father and husband and kept his family as a priority over work when his wife and newborn needed him the most. Serena went through complicated childbirth and needed care. While Ohanian was there for her, many have to miss out.

Understanding their situation, Ohanian has raised his voice for an equal opportunity for fathers to attend to their newborns. However, a few people disagree with him. One such person was the Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale. He said that the men who take family leaves are losers.
Ohanian publically criticized Lonsdale for his remarks. Recently in an interview, he spoke about the same.
Why did Ohanian openly criticize Lonsdale?
Lonsdale’s comments were exactly the contrast to Ohanian’s views. Here’s what the 39-year-old said about calling him out.
“As a society, we’ve crippled the confidence of men like Joe. Part of the reason I’ve been advocating as loudly as I have is because I want other men to have the confidence to take that time. For folks who want to have outsized impacts on the world, it is about understanding the whys. Why do the things you do? Why go to work? For many people, myself included, it is the legacy you’re leaving behind for the little human you’ve produced,” he said.

Further, he explained how being successful doesn’t mean running away from the responsibilities of fatherhood.

“I’ve gotten to know some really successful men over the years, and eventually, this topic comes up. And not a single one of them has ever said, gosh, I wish I spent less time with my kids,” he added.
