18-year-old American Prodigy, Coco Gauff, has been making quite a few headlines at this year’s French Open. Yesterday, she beat the 2017 US Open champion, Sloane Stephens, in the quarter-final to book her semi-final spot for the first time in a Major event.

Many former and current players praised the teenager’s performance and growth since making her Grand Slam debut in 2019 Wimbledon. One of the greatest American tennis players of all time, Chris Evert, also hailed Gauff for her Amazing run at this year’s Roland Garros.

In the past, Evert criticized fans for not showing faith in the teenager. On multiple occasions, she defended her performances in the previous Grand Slams. It seemed like Evert really loved Gauff’s performance at the French Open, as she is finally fulfilling her potential to be one of the best players of this generation.

In the quarter-final, Gauff played one of the best matches of the tournament, as she beat her great friend and fellow American star, Sloane Stephens, in straight sets. Now, she will play the 59th-ranked WTA player, Martina Trevisan, in the semis. Notably, the Italian player has been playing some exceptional tennis in this tournament, as she beat last year’s US Open finalist, Leylah Fernandez, in the quarter-final.

So, it will be a tough match for Gauff, for sure, as she is looking for her first Major final. Meanwhile, Gauff is aiming for another title, as she reached the quarter-final of the doubles tournament as well. She partnered with Jessica Pegula in this tournament. Previously, the American pair won the Qatar Open, which was their first big tournament win together.

Now, Gauff has the chance to win both singles and doubles tournaments at the same time. Last year, Barbora Krejcikova achieved this feat by winning both doubles and singles events at the French Open.
