Can Naomi Osaka's partnership with Mouratoglou really turn her career around, or is it just hype?

Yellow Alert? As Naomi Osaka embarks on a new journey with her new coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, Rennae Stubbs, a respected tennis coach, has issued a firm warning. Previously, we saw Stubbs reminisce about the bitter memories of Mouratoglou with Simona Halep relating to the doping saga. “I mean, I don’t know, I’d be a little wary of having people around me that had those credentials.” This is her exact statement from a previous podcast on the Frenchman. Nowadays, Stubbs has yet again come with a completely new set of warnings!

Stubbs has a record of taking on other coaches! For example, she heavily criticized Brad Gilbert during his tenure with American superstar Coco Gauff. Then she made a few claims about Naomi Osaka’s ex-coach Wim Fissette. According to Rennae Stubbs, He (Wim Fissette) likes the money. Like, that’s a lot of them, I know for a fact. You know, some of the things that got him fired from other jobs was that he wanted more money.” Has Wim Fissette’s split with Naomi Osaka stemmed from monetary reasons? We don’t know!

However, Fissette joined Osaka’s team in early 2020 and he gave her results within a few months. Naomi Osaka won two Grand Slam titles during his tenure, but, can Patrick Mouratoglou bring Osaka back to winning tracks?

Here’s what Stubbs is more concerned about, “There’s a lot of interesting comments coming on that situation. We will see where it turns out, and often, when you start working with a player and you’re new, they do have good results early on, because they’re like, they feel fresh, they feel like they get enthusiastic about doing stuff, and they get a new voice in their head.”

She continued, “And we’ve seen it happen over the last year with some players with new coaches, and bang, they have great results, and then it slowly fizzles out. It’s like being in a relationship, having to coach a player. So we’ll see how long it lasts, and we’ll see if he can turn her around. But certainly a new voice.”

Even with Coco Gauff, we saw her winning the US Open shortly after the inclusion of Brad Gilbert in her team, but then she also struggled to bring home her second major title. Is this what Rennae Stubbs is trying to tell us? Stubbs also shared a cryptic post after Naomi Osaka announced parting ways with Wim Fissette.

In the tweet, she wrote, “Taylor Swift song ‘If I was a man‘ song is just hitting me today. The tennis coaching world is hilarious.” She has raised numerous concerns about this new partnership of Naomi Osaka with the Frenchman, but what do other experts think of this inclusion?

According to tennis player and analyst Alize Lim, Patrick Mouratoglou can help Naomi Osak both tactically and psychologically. During a recent episode of the Tennis Channel’s Inside-In podcast, she said, “I feel it would be a great association with Patrick Mouratoglou, to be honest,” but why is she saying so?

According to Lim, Mouratoglou’s strength is to help players regain their confidence and make them believe in their abilities. She feels that’s what Naomi Osaka needs the most at this moment. “If the sparks happen, and if there’s chemistry between two people, you cannot know before trying,” Lim looks more optimistic about this partnership, though!
