The year 2014 was a special one for tennis legend Martina Navratilova on the personal front. The 66-year-old tied the knot with long-time girlfriend Julia Lemigova three months after proposing to her at the US Open. The pair have had a strong bond, supporting each other during good and bad times.

A few months back, Navratilova revealed that she was suffering from cancer. In what was a double blow to her, she was diagnosed with stage 1 throat cancer and early-stage breast cancer. Despite going through horrifying treatment, the former World Number One kept fighting to eventually overcome the disease. Recently, she opened up about how her saddening state kept her wife on her toes.

The 66-year-old got featured in an interview with Good Morning Britain where she and her wife revealed what they went through during Navratilova’s cancer treatment. Talking about horrifying cancer treatment, Navratilova said, “My cancer was 95% treatable, so not exactly life-threatening, but actual treatment was horrific. You know, chemotherapy radiation, it really beat me up. So physically, it was brutal. And it’s still hanging over your shoulders, no matter what, you can’t get away from it.”

Subsequently, the tennis legend also talked about what her wife had to go through as she recovered from cancer. Getting emotional, Navratilova revealed, “So the powerlessness definitely came for me, but at least I can control my attitude, but Julia really, was powerless with that. She was really scared in the beginning, we were both scared.”

Earlier this year, the 50-year-old Russian model was featured in an interview where she talked about her personal and professional life. During that interview, Julia made a personal confession that she bosses around Navratilova. Additionally, she said, “I’m giving her hard time, and then sometimes think, Oh my god-like, she’s sometimes, Julia, you should be nicer to me.”
