Even after investing $6 million in the stadium for the WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico, the courts were not usable in time. Usually, the courts should have been ready by Thursday this week so that players could get some time to practice in the actual stadium where they will be playing the matches. But since it has not been ready until today, many WTA players were disappointed, including the world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka.

Recently, in an interview, Sabalenka shared how this management of the courts has affected her and all the other players who are going to be a part of this tournament.

WTA Finals is one of the biggest tournaments in the women’s tennis calendar. However, this year, the iconic season-ending tournament has been marred by issues. The biggest issue was the under-prepared courts, which highlighted the mismanagement on the part of the authorities. In a recent interview, Sabalenka was asked how the mishap at the venue made her feel.

To this, she answered, “Well, I’m not happy that we couldn’t practice on the match court. I think this is not the level for the WTA Finals. We literally have one hour today to try the stadium. This is something that I’m not happy with. I’m pretty sure the rest of the players are also not happy. We need like three to four days to kind of like adjust to the conditions. But, yeah, we’ll see. But I hope that next year WTA will do a better job.

Aryna Sabalenka’s frustration is clearly visible in her answer, as she and many other players were not able to practice on the court. And if, even after so much investment, the WTA authorities cannot make the venue playable on time, then everyone can understand the Belarusian star’s frustrations.
