World No.8 Iga Swiatek broke down in tears after her humiliating defeat in the second round of the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The Polish player lost to Spain’s Paula Badosa Gibert who crushed her in straight sets and didn’t give her any chance to bounce back. The final scoreline of the match was 6-3, 7(7)-6(4).

In the post-match interview, Iga Swiatek revealed that it is quite normal to cry after losing matches. She mentioned that she is also a human being who has emotions which she was unable to control on the court.

“It seems to me that 90 percent of players cry after losing matches. This time it happened to me. We are also human. Competing at the highest level every week is not easy. Tennis is such a frustrating sport at times, but of course, there is nothing to complain about,” said Swiatek in the interview.

Swiatek highlighted that about 90 percent of players break down into tears after losing matches. Thus, she claimed that tennis can be a very frustrating sport at certain times.

“Was a very demanding game”- Iga Swiatek on her match against Paula Badosa

Swiatek admitted that Badosa played some really attacking tennis throughout the match which made her approach very defensive. She stated that the Spaniard was able to put a lot of pressure on her and she felt as if she was playing against a wall.

“[Badosa] put a lot of pressure on me, she was attacking all the time. Sometimes I felt like (I was playing) against a wall, I was a lot defensive. It was a very demanding game,” added the Polish player.

Iga Swiatek’s exit from Tokyo Olympics 2020 is a big shock for the entire tennis world. However, her fans still have huge expectations from her. Will she be able to succeed at the US Open 2021?
