Sisters Venus and Serena Williams are two of the greatest tennis players of all time. They started playing tennis at a very young age. Their father, Richard Williams, used to coach them earlier, and later, renowned tennis coach, Rick Macci joined them.

Being the elder sister, Venus was more mature, both physically and mentally. She once revealed how, in their early playing days, her sister was too young to hold a racket in her hand.
Venus recalls Serena’s early playing days
When Venus and Serena were young, Serena was not very strong physically, according to the 5-time Wimbledon champion.
“You know I was always really very, very, very good. Serena, on the other hand, wasn’t very good at all. She was small, really slim and the racket was way too big for her,” she said.
Further, she credited Serena’s rapid growth on the tour after her debut, as she claimed the US Open title at a mere 17 years of age.

“She’s moved on from there. She started playing especially good tennis at around 15, which was soon enough – I mean, she won the US Open two years later. But still, it was quite late compared to me. You know, I guess I was always Venus…,” she added.
When we look at Serena now, her power is the core strength of her gameplay and it’s hard to imagine her being thin and weak.

After a long gap, Serena returned to the tour at the Wimbledon Championships 2022. It didn’t go well for the 40-year-old as she crashed out of the first round. Serena was not looking at her best and would have liked to go better prepared for the tournament. However, the 23-time Grand Slam champion has decided to gain match-fitness before the upcoming US Open.
The former world number 1 is going to play in a couple of tournaments leading to the US Open later next month. Serena has officially registered for the National Bank Open in Toronto and the Cincinnati Masters.
