Former Serena Williams’ coach Rennae Stubbs had a thing or two to say about Emma Raducanu not being able to find her groove since winning the 2021 US Open. Emma Raducanu made headlines when she won the 2021 US Open as an 18-year-old. But ever since, she hasn’t been able to keep up with the required expectation and has constantly wilted under pressure. She also has now dropped out of the top 100 in the rankings.
With so much criticism from nay-sayers around, Raducanu has recently told that sometimes she even wished that she hadn’t won that US Open. When asked about this by the host of the ‘SportsTalkOnPrime’, former world no.1 doubles player Stubbs offered some solutions.

Because of the pressure, Raducanu has said that she had felt that she had never won the US Open 2021. She said, “I very much attach my self-worth to my achievements. If I lost a match, I would be really down. I would have a day of mourning, literally staring at the wall. I feel things so passionately and intensely.??

To this, Stubbs said that,”Welcome to the world of professional athletes. I can tell you, myself when I lose a match, I didn’t want to leave my hotel room for a day or so. I know Maria Sharapova, same thing. She wouldn’t leave her room for like a couple of days when she lost to a couple of US Opens. She would stay in her hotel room for a couple of days.”? ? ?
A Rafael Nadal-like hiatus may help
Stubbs suggested a
Rafael Nadal-like break for Raducanu as she is struggling to recuperate from her multiple wrist injuries and leg injuries. Stubbs called on her to get her body healthy, take a long break like Rafael Nadal and then be ready for action after maybe a year. Stubbs said ” I would wait an entire year. Like Rafael Nadal get yourself 100 percent ready to go. Get yourself fit.”ADVERTISEMENT

You’ve reached the fourth round of Wimbledon. You are capable of achieving these things. Don’t do anything more than you need to do. Carry on with your career. Get the right team behind you.”
It will be interesting to see if Raducanu even watched the show featuring Rennae Stubbs and would have taken the advice. Raducanu would want to determine soon if she would take a break from the competition to heal from her injuries or continue playing.

There has never been any iota of doubt regarding Raducanu’s ability on a tennis court. However, there appears to be some mental barriers that are hampering her success and stifling her potential. She would like them to get addressed soon before she wins even big in tennis.
