In the podcast show ‘Archetypes,’ the 23-time singles Grand Slam champion lauded Meghan Markle for being more fearless than her. Even though the Duchess of Sussex disagreed with those assertions, Serena Williams remained steadfast to her beliefs as she also called herself a bit ‘silly.’  She said, “You know, this is so silly because, you know, I’m a little silly, but… Like swimming, I won’t swim in the ocean.”

As she got real about her own fear, the former tennis player also claimed that it could go on a variety of levels. She said, “You can’t get me in the ocean now. I’m so afraid of open water like it’s a joke. But, yeah, fearless, fear can go on so many different levels.” The ‘Queen of the Court’ went on to talk about how one doesn’t think about those fears when they are younger, saying that everything is an “amazing experience.”

When it comes to fearlessness, Williams mentioned that her daughter Olympia is in the same state and that she doesn’t want to change her “fearless side” just yet. She said,  “And I see it in Olympia. I see, like, how fearless she is. And I encourage her because I’m afraid of heights. And I just be like, Oh, this is great. And she, like, embraces it because I don’t want her to take on my fears.” The former number 1 player also claimed that it is parents’ duty to keep their children away from their own fears. Williams added, “And I think that’s important that when you’re raising a child you don’t let them take on your fears.”
