The world of tennis has traveled a long way on the road to development. With modern-day tournaments being known for their high levels of professionalism, tennis stays on top of all. However, a recent miscarriage of setup at the WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico, became a major controversy. Tennis legend Jimmy Connors, known for his bright career and expert advice on the events, came forward to lay his verdict on the situation.

Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, and others raised concerns about the tour’s inadequate facilities. Many players mentioned that the court had little chance of bounce, was hard to navigate, and they were getting limited time for practice. The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) acknowledged the issues and promised to improve. Jimmy Connors supported the players who spoke out and shared his thoughts on the situation, hoping it would lead to change.

Tennis legend Jimmy Connors criticized the recent WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico, because of poor conditions. In a recent interview, Connors expressed his disappointment, saying, “It’s a shame. Especially in today’s times, you think something like that is unacceptable.” He emphasized how tennis tournaments have come a long way from their early days when players had to walk on muddy board planks due to rain, and he expected better preparation for a year-end final like the WTA Finals.

Connors highlighted the importance of player satisfaction, stating, “Not only for the players, which is probably the most important but what about the fans? Sitting in stands and their participation in the whole event… to not be ready and prepared and have the players fight against inconsistent courts and bad bounces, it’s a shame.” He also suggested that future tournament organizers should take note, saying, “I’m sure that the players and those involved in where that tournament is next year will surely have second thoughts about going back there.”

Connors’ strong words showed the disappointment of players and tennis enthusiasts. These concerns prompted the authorities to present a gesture of apology and learning, as the WTA CEO’s letter offered a confession.
